To increase the worldwide green hydrogen production, large electrolyzer plants up into the gigawatt range must be developed. In this context you will be working closely with our electrical engineering team within the Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) department in Erlangen, Germany, to develop, analyze and evaluate grid configurations and power electronic converter systems suitable to connect future high power electrolyzer plants to the electricity grid. The tasks range from the conceptual development of connection schemes including simulations to the test device setup to proof-of-concept tests. In addition, you will work in closely related research and development projects. You will receive inhouse academic supervision by our technical experts and graduated colleagues (f/m/d). The position has the potential to be converted to a permanent full-time position within the electrical engineering team of SES.How You’ll Make an Impact Familiarization with special demands of hydrogen electrolysis systemsSimulative analysis of possible grid connections for high power electrolyzer plantsSimulative analysis of possible power electronic configurations in close cooperation with our power electronic technical expertsDesign converter concepts for high power DC/DC applicationsControl development of high-power DC/DC converters and configurationsDevelopment and extensive testing of high-power DC/DC converters prototypesDevelopment of protection and fault management algorithms in DC grids using high power DC/DC convertersSetup of a laboratory-scaled demonstrator to examine the developed conceptsClose collaboration in related research and development projectsWhat You BringMaster´s Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering in power electronicsA list of publications is a plusSimulation experience: Matlab/SIMULINK, PSCAD|EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory is a plusProgramming: C/C++, Python, Fortran is a plusCreative and committed to personal development and continuous improvementExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English - knowledge in German is a plus.Ability to work independently and with high internal motivation in a dynamic environment
